The Ukrainian delegation recorded six new podiums in biathlon, a discipline it has dominated since the start of the Paralympiad with 22 medals.

She is second in the medal table behind China, with 25 charms including nine, a record, in gold.

Ukraine equals its total already achieved in 2006 in Turin, three days from the end of the competition.

Oleksandr Kazik and Oksana Shyshkova in the visually impaired category and Liudmyla Liashenko in the standing category were all crowned in the individual.

Liashenko, who learned during the week of the destruction of his house in Kharkiv, made a point of dedicating his medal "to the Ukrainians, to the army which protects us and to my family".

For her part, Oksana Shyshkova won her fifth medal of the Games, the third in gold.

"We want to protect the honor of our country," she commented.

"Maybe that's what motivates us to stay focused and do the best we can. Maybe that's the secret."
