First-time voters that SVT spoke to believe that this autumn's three elections - to the Riksdag, region and municipality - are "more important than ever" and highlight the war in Ukraine and the previous government crisis.

And for the group, each individual vote weighs heavily, as first-time voters have not made up such a small proportion in Uppsala since before the 2002 election.

Record twelve years ago

According to preliminary figures from Statistics Sweden (SCB) for this year, 5.6 percent of those eligible to vote in Uppsala will be debutants - compared with the 2010 election when the group accounted for 7.7 percent.

At the last election, the proportion was 5.8 percent.

- First-time voters are a group that the parties want to attract, as it largely tends to continue voting as they did the first time, says Oskar Hultin Bäckersten, political scientist at Uppsala University.

Can be more

The fact that first-time voters in Uppsala will have a record small share can not be determined six months before the election, according to Statistics Sweden, as the municipality has a large influx of young people.

In the last election, the forecast was 5.2 percent for first-time voters - but the result landed at 5.8.

- Thus, we can probably also expect a higher proportion of first-time voters in Uppsala 2022 compared to 2018, says Jonas Olofsson, investigator at Statistics Sweden.
