It was on Christmas Eve afternoon that the rescue service, police and ambulance were alerted to a fire in the 42-year-old's house on Vikbolandet outside Norrköping.
According to the indictment, the 42-year-old allegedly lit a gas tube and then aimed the flame at the kitchen ceiling, which then caught fire.
He then allegedly tried to take the life of a 76-year-old man who was visiting by pointing the gas tube flame at him.
According to the indictment, the 76-year-old suffered burns to his head and left hand and upper arm.
The 42-year-old denies the crime.
The house burned to the ground.
