Zelensky: I did not consider the American offer to leave, and I am still in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that he has not considered the United States' proposal for him to leave Ukraine, and that he is still in the country.

"My whereabouts are in Ukraine, in Kyiv, and this is not a secret," Zelensky said in a statement to the German newspaper, Die Zeit, published on Thursday.

The Ukrainian president also called on Western countries to tighten sanctions against Russia, saying that "if the sanctions were enough to stop progress, but the purchase of oil and gas from Russia continues."

"Therefore, it is necessary to continue to tighten sanctions against Russia," he added.

It is noteworthy that the United States, Canada and some other countries have announced their abandonment of buying oil and gas from Russia, while the European Union has announced that it will seek to reduce its dependence on fuel supplies from Russia as well, against the backdrop of the Russian military operation in Ukraine.
