The Armed Forces will in the near future have regular press conferences due to the security situation and the war in Ukraine.

On Thursday, a first press conference was held, where the Armed Forces and the military intelligence and security service, Must, gave a status report.

Michael Claesson, head of operations at the Swedish Armed Forces, states that the threat to Sweden has increased in recent weeks.

- In recent months, significant factors have been added, says Claesson.

He mentions the invasion of Ukraine, Russia's strengthened grip on Belarus and Russia's ties to China.

Russian reactions to sanctions, and support for Ukraine and the country's military, may be directed at Sweden.

- In the Russian toolbox, there are, among other things, influence operations, discreditation of important people, cyber attacks and sabotage, says Claesson.

Must: Increased risk of attempts to influence

The intelligence threat against Sweden has remained at a high level since 2016, says Jan Kinnander, head of the Security Office at Must.

He states that the risk of Russian influence operations, so-called subversion, is increased.

The risk of sabotage through physical activity or cyber activities is considered low, but extra protective measures are still taken.
