Hear Anna Hansson (MP) and Daniel Filpsson (M) about the development proposal for Mjörnstranden.

Hundreds of views have flowed in from the public in Alingsås, among other things with concerns that it will be built near Lake Mjörn, which the Green Party also doubts.

- The fact that we have a housing queue and need to build a lot does not necessarily mean that we build in unsuitable places.

And this is inappropriate to exploit to the degree you want, says Anna Hansson (MP), member of the municipal board.

"Many were discouraged"

Already about ten years ago, there was talk of exploiting Mjörnstranden, according to Simon Waern (S), vice chairman of the municipal board, which resulted in a proposal that was never implemented.

Then came a couple of builders' grand plans for what Mjörnstranden could look like in the future, with several thousand homes near the beach.

A proposal that the municipality did not take up, but made its own slimmed-down version.

- I think that many were discouraged then, but we have no agreement with any developer, we have developed this for the sake of alingsåsarna, says Simon Waern (S), vice chairman of the municipal board.

"No Manhattan"

The idea, says Waern, is to make Mjörnstranden more attractive to the public with, among other things, wooden bridges and the possibility of a cold bath house.

And the financing of public investment can take place with the help of the construction of new housing.

- It is not something Manhattan we see in front of us, without building on Alingsås small town identity.

What do you think about the fact that not everyone is in favor of building something new near Mjörn?

- Of course we have respect for that and we have had those opinions in the municipal board, therefore nothing has happened in the area for decades.

I think this is a good proposal, if a majority did not think it was a good proposal, we would not have put it out, says Daniel Filipsson (M), chairman of the municipal board.
