An Egyptian in Ukraine: Whenever I reach the border and escape, I return to the bombing areas for these reasons!

When war breaks out somewhere, everyone thinks of escaping himself to a safe place, but there are exceptional people who may put themselves at risk in order to save others, and that is exactly what a young Egyptian did in Ukraine.

Although he reached the Polish border and was in safety, he returned again to the bombing sites in Kyiv, only to evacuate others who sought help.

The young man, called Islam Al-Ashery, who hails from Fayoum Governorate, south of Cairo, told "Sky News Arabia": "I came to Ukraine at the beginning of 2020 to study, and after that I started working as a tour guide where I learned the Russian language and started working in areas frequented by Russian tourists. in Ukraine".

He continued, "From here, I have great experience in different roads and regions in Ukraine from my frequent wanderings with tourists, and when the war broke out, I drove my Egyptian friends to the border with Poland, and my decision was that I would go with them to Poland, but when I arrived at the border I saw on the Snapchat application Distress from an Iraqi girl with 4 children says that her house in the city of Bila Tserkav was bombed and that she is besieged and she cannot move with the children.

Islam adds: "A Saudi friend called me from Riyadh and asked me to help her, but I told him that the distance between me and her is 650 kilometers, and he said to me: "Okay, it's hard for you!", But after I dropped my friends off, I found the car that was with me and was rented with enough petrol to get to a place This woman, so I decided to go to her, especially since the owner of the car that was with me, a Lebanese businessman, asked me not to leave her at the border and return her to him again.”

He continued, "Indeed, I went to the place of the girl and her children and brought them to the Polish border. On the way, I played Egyptian songs for them to reassure them... Then I evacuated a Lebanese man and his wife and brought them to the Polish border as well."

Al-Ashiri affirmed that: "The most difficult evacuation I faced was a Ukrainian woman and her Yemeni children, as it took 6 days to get them out of Chernyshev Oblast to the borders of Poland, and I did not sleep in it."

He added that this situation was reached by some appeals to him through the Snapchat application, because of his ability to deal with these situations.

He said that while he was in that case, a Russian armored vehicle fired at him on the road, destroying the car he was driving, but the owner of the car provided him with an alternative car to help evacuate humanitarian cases.

He confirmed that when he arrived at the Ukrainian woman, he found her not ready to leave, and she took more than an hour to collect her belongings and those of her children, and told him that she thought he would die on the way and would not be able to reach them, so they were not prepared to leave before his arrival.

He added, "He got to know some Ukrainians in the villages on the way back, who helped him pass by side roads far from those controlled by the Russians, so that he was able to deliver this woman and her children to the borders of Poland."

He confirmed that during the evacuation trip, this family slept in the car for two full nights due to the curfew, and that "this Ukrainian woman has two sons from a Yemeni husband and a daughter from an Egyptian husband."

He explained that after that, a Saudi called for him to evacuate him and his eight-month pregnant wife from the city of Lviv, and indeed he managed to evacuate them.

Islam said that he is not thinking of leaving Ukraine now as long as there are means to help him evacuate humanitarian cases, whether in cars or money to help him spend during trips.

He explained that he is currently planning to evacuate the imam of an Egyptian mosque besieged on a farm near Kyiv after the city of Zhyumar, and that there is a Lebanese volunteer who is enthusiastic about the matter and will accompany him this time to evacuate a Lebanese family from the same area.
