The lifeless body of a man was fished out this Thursday shortly before 12:30 p.m. in the Ille-et-Rance canal.

The discovery was made at the Alfred-Jarry alley, in the Bourg-l'Evêque district, in Rennes.

Aged 40, the victim is said to be a homeless man.

According to the first elements, the forties would have fallen into the canal after an altercation with another individual Wednesday evening around 9:40 p.m.

It was witnesses who alerted the emergency services, telling them that a person was in the water and that another had fled.

The searches carried out in the middle of the night initially yielded nothing before the macabre discovery this Thursday noon.

A little earlier in the morning, a man corresponding to the description of the witnesses was arrested by the police and taken into custody.

Aged 37, he is already unfavorably known to the services.

The investigation was entrusted to the departmental security.
