Very long pass queues throughout the country: "Never happened with us before"

During the pandemic, fewer Swedes applied for a new passport, the police state.

This has created a huge passport debt.

- Our recommendation is that you must be out in extremely good time, look at times in neighboring counties and be prepared to go further than usual, says police spokeswoman Angelica Israelsson Silfver.

More people want to go out and travel

According to the police, the fact that it has become relevant to renew the passport now is due to more people wanting to go out and travel in connection with many countries releasing their restrictions.

The long queues may also have created a domino effect where more people book time to renew passes, without having a planned trip for fear of not having time to get a pass in time once it goes.

- If you do not have a trip planned, you may be able to wait to book an appointment for a new passport, says Özlem Ekelund.

The police also warn that the booking system can be slow at high loads and that the load is usually highest in the morning.
