The power supply of the Chernobyl power plant and its security equipment is "totally" cut off due to Russian military actions, the Ukrainian operator Ukrenergo reported on Wednesday.

The Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the origin of the worst civil nuclear catastrophe in 1986,

"has been totally disconnected from the electrical grid due to the military actions of the Russian occupiers

. The place no longer has electricity supply," said the operator on its page. From Facebook.

"In the nuclear fuel storage facility about 20,000 spent fuel assemblies are stored.

They need constant cooling. Which is possible only if there is electricity

. If it is not there, the bombs will not cool down. As a result, the temperature will rise by holding pools," warns the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine on its Twitter account.

"After evaporation occurs, that will lead to nuclear discharge.

The wind can transfer the radioactive cloud to other regions of Ukraine, Belarus, Russia and Europe

. Also, there is no ventilation inside the facility," he insists.

The Ukrainian authorities assure that

"all the personnel there will receive a dangerous dose of radiation

. The fire extinguishing system is also not working, and this is a great risk of fire caused by the shelling. The fighting continues so it is impossible to carry out repairs and restore power.
