• While Russia noted this Wednesday "progress" in the negotiations with Ukraine, the bar of two million refugees from Ukraine was crossed.

  • If humanitarian aid and Western donations are flowing into the country, many citizens are trying, as they can, to help these civilians in distress.

  • A group of Lithuanians, for example, launched a campaign of phone calls to Russia to combat Moscow's propaganda.

They are more than two million.

Two million Ukrainian civilians to leave their countries, targets of Russian armor for two weeks.

Women, men, children, alone or with families, these Ukrainians find themselves far from their homes on the way, with the means at hand, to Romania, Moldova, Poland or even France.

If humanitarian aid and Western donations are flowing into the country, many civilians from all over the world are trying, as they can, to come to the aid of these Ukrainians in distress.

A short tour of the most original initiatives.

Rent a ghost Airbnb to finance families on site

Tens of thousands of users of the Airbnb tourist rental site have booked accommodation in Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion.

What is special about these reservations?

They will remain empty.

The idea being here, not to go there but obviously to help the local population.

On March 2 and 3, 61,000 nights were booked in the country, representing a total of nearly two million dollars, according to the CEO of the community rental giant.

This is the best Idea I have seen in a long time.

This spontaneous outpouring of solidarity began to show after Airbnb's decision last week to temporarily suspend service fees for bookings made in Ukraine until further notice.

Hundreds of travelers then rented Airbnb homes in Ukraine and shared on social networks the exchanges with their hosts who thanked them for their financial and moral support.

Friend just booked Airbnb apartment in Kyiv ( that clearly he will never go to ) as Airbnb have waved their commission.

In parallel, the platform also announced last week that it would offer free short-term accommodation to up to 100,000 Ukrainians fleeing the war.

Airbnb also said it had identified donations totaling $1.2 million to its refugee fund and guaranteed to have suspended operations in Russia and Belarus.

Become an “anonymous” smartphone thanks to the “Call Russia” initiative

A group of Lithuanians launched a campaign of telephone calls to Russia to combat Moscow's propaganda and thus contribute to the end of the war in Ukraine.

The initiative called "Call Russia" or "Call Russia" in French, must mobilize volunteers from the Russian and Russian-speaking diaspora to randomly call one of the 40 million telephone numbers in Russia made available to them on a site Internet, also available from a smartphone.

Its promoters hope that these direct contacts will circumvent Russian propaganda and teach ordinary people what is really going on in Ukraine.

They hope that “thousands, hundreds of thousands of members of the Russian diaspora” around the world will join the initiative and that sincere contacts between people can break the censorship of independent information in Russia.

Drink wine (but quality with an auction in Bordeaux)

Allied solidarity with pleasure, it is possible.

The French wine world is mobilizing with an online wine auction for the benefit of the victims of the war in Ukraine.

The latter will be organized at the end of March after the call for the generosity of professionals in the sector by the honorary consul of Ukraine in New Aquitaine, Laurent Fortin.

"We receive wines from all regions of France, Burgundy, Rhône Valley, Provence and of course from Bordeaux", welcomed the man who is also general manager of Château Dauzac, a Grand Cru Classé of Margaux.

With the money collected, this association plans to buy basic necessities and medical equipment.

The head of the MĂ©doc cru, who "calls for the civic commitment of the wine sector to relieve a friendly people in distress",

Simply become a scoot

To support their country in the war imposed by Russia, the young people of the Plast association – Ukrainian scouts of France organize collections of all types of products.

The parcels are transported by trucks, two leave every day, to the Polish border.

There, other members of the association smuggle them into Ukraine and transport them to the combat zones.

These collections are also a way for these young Ukrainians to support themselves, unable to be with their families and friends who are living through the war.

Blue and yellow T-shirts, therefore, which were placed on each seat with a note signed by Demna Gvasalia, the Georgian designer of Balenciaga and himself a refugee from a war with Russia.
