Xinhua News Agency, Tokyo, March 8 (Reporter Jiang Qiaomei) The Supreme Court of Japan recently rejected the appeal of Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) and ordered TEPCO to compensate about 580 residents of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant nuclear leakage accident with 1.1 billion days of compensation. According to Japanese media reports on the 8th, the Supreme Court of Japan ruled on three class-action lawsuits on the 7th, involving about 580 people, all of whom claimed compensation from Tepco for the mental distress caused by the nuclear leakage accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

In the previous second-instance judgment, TEPCO was required to compensate the plaintiff at a rate higher than the Japanese national compensation standard, and TEPCO subsequently appealed to the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court rejected Tepco's appeal on the 7th and ordered it to pay a total of 1.1 billion yen to the plaintiff.

Class action lawyer Nomura Yoshitaro believes that this is a message from the Supreme Court of Japan to Tepco to "stop arguing and take responsibility" on the eve of the "3.11" earthquake and tsunami anniversary.

On March 11, 2011, an earthquake with a magnitude of 9.0 occurred in the waters off northeastern Japan and triggered a huge tsunami, causing heavy casualties.

Affected by the earthquake and tsunami, a large amount of radioactive material leaked from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant owned by TEPCO.

So far, at least 10,000 accident victims have initiated more than 30 class actions to claim compensation from Dongdian.

Up to now, 6 of the 7 lawsuits appealed to the Supreme Court of Japan have confirmed TEPCO's compensation liability, and the compensation amount is higher than the Japanese national compensation standard.
