Istanbul state authorities decided to suspend the study until next Monday, and more than 200 flights were canceled, in anticipation of a new snow storm expected to hit the city from Wednesday evening until early next week.

In a statement, Istanbul announced a state of alert in orange, due to the expectation of storms and heavy snowfall in the city.

At the same time, the Turkish Meteorological Authority warned that the thickness of the snow expected during the night could reach 20 centimeters.

Istanbul state said it was decided to close schools, nurseries and universities on Thursday and Friday.

The state added that it was also decided to close shopping centers at six in the evening today, and asked employees to stay at home on Thursday and Friday.

As a precautionary measure, motorbikes and buses between cities have been suspended as of this evening.

In turn, Turkish Airlines announced the cancellation of 205 departing and incoming flights to Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gokcen Airport, located in the Asian part of the city.

The company expected that the number of canceled flights will increase, given the weather conditions.

The airline "Pegasus" also announced that 30 incoming and outgoing domestic flights will be canceled tomorrow, Thursday, at Sabiha Gokcen Airport, and about 50 flights on Friday.

In late January, the city of Istanbul witnessed a snow storm that caused almost complete paralysis of life.

At the time, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu of the opposition Republican People's Party, who was elected in 2019, was criticized for how the municipality handled the storm.
