It was in June last year that a doctor in Northwest Skåne was convicted of raping a female patient and sexually harassing four other women during ongoing investigations.

The Health and Medical Care Liability Committee has now decided to withdraw his doctor's ID, something that the Swedish Health and Care Inspectorate has previously demanded.

"In IVO's opinion, this is clearly a matter of a crime of such a nature that is likely to affect his confidence in him as a doctor.

The conditions for revoking the doctor's doctor's identity card are thus met. ”,

Ivo has previously written.

Wants to keep the doctor's ID

The doctor convicted of rape opposes the decision and wants to continue practicing as a doctor in the future.

He denies any wrongdoing and has claimed that his actions were unintentional and only with the intention of examining the patients.

"In view of the fact that the crimes are not to be classified as serious in his eyes, as the five sexual harassments did not result in imprisonment without fines, damages and community service, and that the alleged rape has not occurred, revocation of the ID is an excessive intervention in his life. ”,

it says about his attitude in the decision.

After the verdict, the doctor had to close his clinic.

This reduced his sentence to two years in prison.

In addition, he was sentenced to pay damages of a total of SEK 190,000 distributed slightly differently to the affected patients.

More and more people are losing their ID cards

The number of revoked IDs has steadily increased over the past three years, from 64 in 2019 to 100 in 2020. This applies above all to doctors, nurses and midwives who are thus banned from working.

The most common reason is that someone himself requests that the ID be revoked for various reasons, but the number who lose it due to crime has increased from 2 to 16 during the same period.
