• Immigration Melilla suffers the biggest jump to the fence in its history: 2,500 immigrants of which almost 500 manage to pass

  • Second jump 1,200 immigrants try to cross armed with hooks and sticks, 350 succeed

A strong deployment of security by

Spain

and

Morocco

in the border perimeter of Melilla has frustrated this Tuesday a new attempt at irregular entry by a thousand migrants, 400 of whom have managed to reach the fence.

Sources from the

Government Delegation

in this autonomous city have reported that, around 6:00 am, the Civil Guard's anti-intrusion device has detected the approach of a group made up of a thousand people to the fence.

The migrants, as they have approached the perimeter, "in a coordinated and perfectly organized manner," have divided into several groups.

One of these groups, estimated at about 400 people, managed to reach the fence shortly before 8:00 am in the area established between the border crossings of

Barrio Chino

and

Beni-Enzar

.

According to the Government Delegation, the Moroccan security forces "have been violently harassed" but their "perfect coordination and impeccable performance" has made it possible to contain the jump to the Melilla fence.

Eyewitnesses have explained to Efe that, in the Moroccan part of the perimeter, the agents have used anti-riot material, specifically tear gas, whose effects have also been noted in the Spanish part.

The extensive police device established by the Civil Guard, in collaboration with the National Police, has remained at the foot of the fence in all the action areas of the perimeter, achieving with this coordination the neutralization of the jump in its entirety.

The

Local Police

has joined the device cutting the roads to ensure the safety of the device and citizens.

This entry attempt is added to those that the Melilla fence suffered last day 2 in which 2,500 immigrants participated and 491 managed to enter;

on March 3, when 1,200 tried to jump the fence and 380 succeeded;

and on the 4th, starring a thousand migrants, although none were able to enter Melilla.
