There are divided opinions about the 14-storey hotel in the new district Västerport.

Hembygdsföreningen Gamla Varberg appealed the detailed plan that Varberg municipality adopted in June last year.

The Land and Environment Court will now decide the case.

- It feels good that the wait is over and that the process is underway, says project manager Maria Hagelberg at Varberg municipality.

15 meters higher than the fortress

Lars Grimbeck, chairman of Hembygdsföreningen Gamla Varberg, sees it as a success that the court took their appeal seriously.

- We had the opportunity to show that nationally interesting sight lines are disturbed and that there will be a shell shift where the tallest building, the hotel, is 50 meters high while the fortress is 35. Now we have done what we can but our most central requirement is that the National Heritage Board be heard and make a statement because the fortress and the entire inner city of Varberg is in the national interest, says Grimbeck.

The Land and Environment Court will announce the ruling within a few months.
