The staffing trend for 2021 shows an increase of 12 percent in costs for hired care staff in Sweden, according to the Staffing Trend, Sweden's Municipalities and Regions (SKR) annual compilation.

But two regions stand out as the only ones that have reduced costs: Blekinge and Skåne.

Pandemic linked to increase

According to an analysis carried out by SKR, the national increase in temporary staff is linked to the corona pandemic.

And even though Region Blekinge reduced its costs for hired staff throughout 2021, costs increased during the second half of the year.

- The rise during the second half of the year is a trend that we need to break in order to maintain the good statistics.

Continuing the work towards becoming independent of hired staff is extremely important, says Kjell Ivarsson, director of health and medical care.
