The senior public prosecutor in Frankfurt, Alexander B., who is in custody, lived with an investigator from the public prosecutor's office before his second arrest at the end of January.

Justice Minister Kühne-Hörmann (CDU) announced this on Monday in the state parliament's legal policy committee.

As reported, the former head of the Central Office for Medical Criminal Law of the General Public Prosecutor's Office was arrested in July 2020 because he is said to have received a bribe from companies for commissioning them to provide expert opinions in investigations into suspected billing fraud against doctors and clinics.

The arrest warrant against the chief public prosecutor, who was also the press spokesman for the authority, was initially suspended.

But since the end of January this year, the fifty-year-old has been back in prison because the allegations have now reached such proportions that the judiciary considered there was a risk of absconding.

As Kühne-Hörmann further reported to the members of the committee, before the accused was arrested again, the police used technical surveillance instruments to determine that Alexander B. no longer lived in the apartment that he had given the authorities.

In doing so, he violated the conditions that were part of the conditions for the suspension of the arrest warrant.

The officials also had information about the suspect's new actual place of residence.

Allegations of corruption, disloyalty to the country and tax evasion

When they went to the reported apartment before his arrest, a neighbor became aware of the police.

He informed Alexander B. He then went to a police station to say that he had moved and was now living with a former colleague.

The police searched the new apartment.

When she wanted to question the chief public prosecutor, she stated that she was engaged to Alexander B. and referred to her right to refuse to testify.

The Minister of Justice was unable to answer the question of whether she was actually allowed to remain silent on this basis.

This must be clarified by the investigating public prosecutor, she said.

In principle, fiancées are allowed to remain silent in such cases if the status is actually given.

According to Kühne-Hörmann, the chief public prosecutor was not involved in the investigation of Alexander B.

She is not regarded as a suspect but as a witness, but has since been transferred to another authority.

The minister reported that she actually wanted to inform the committee of the facts at the special session on February 10 requested by the opposition.

Because she herself had been infected with the corona virus, her state secretary should represent her.

However, the SPD and FDP would rather postpone the meeting they had requested so that they could question the minister personally in a public meeting.

Kühne-Hörmann then informed the representatives of the parliamentary groups in writing and asked for secrecy for reasons of data protection.

Alexander B. is now accused of corruption, disloyalty to the country and tax evasion.

The financial damage he caused to the country between 2015 and 2020 currently amounts to 558,000 euros.

According to the public prosecutor's office in Frankfurt, the sum could increase due to the ongoing investigation.
