The finalist of the last US Open, 19 years old and 21st in the world, finally won 6-7 (5/7), 6-4, 7-6 (7/3) after 2h52 of the match against the Sud- 20-year-old American (35th).
Osorio came close to claiming her second WTA Tour title when she served to win the tournament 6-5 in the final set, but on her fifth match point, Fernandez called a timeout, complaining of a lighting problem.
The forced break of a quarter of an hour to repair the breakdown visibly cut the legs of the Colombian and revived the Canadian who immediately saved this fifth match point and won the decisive tie-break.
"The match was very, very hard, not only physically or tennis-wise, but also mentally. Camila is a very difficult player to face, she is very unpredictable, alternates + sliced + shots and high balls", declared Fernandez.
The Montreal native thus won her second WTA title, a year after her first coronation in the metropolis of northeastern Mexico, and seems to have finally digested her dazzling career in New York in September.
At the US Open, she had dominated defending champion Naomi Osaka then world second Aryna Sabalenka before losing her first Grand Slam final against another novice under 20, Briton Emma Raducanu.
Since then, she had never passed the round of 16 in three tournaments, notably losing in the first round of the Australian Open in mid-January against Australian Maddison Inglis, only 133rd in the world.
