Europe 1 Studio SEASON 2021 - 202207:00 a.m., March 07, 2022

Born Queen of Scotland in 1542, Marie Stuart, who had been engaged since the age of 6 to Prince Francis II, acceded to the throne of France following the death of King Henry II.

Thus, at only 16 years old, Marie Stuart, now at the head of two kingdoms, has a promising future ahead of her.

But that's without counting on the religious wars between Catholics and Protestants which are ravaging the whole of Europe, and which will make his reign a real hell... In this new episode of the Europe 1 Studio podcast "At the heart of History" , Clémentine Portier-Kaltenbach retraces the life of Marie Stuart, a martyr queen in the 16th century.

Queen Mary Stuart is still in the cradle of raging tensions between Catholics and Protestants in Scotland.

Sent to the court of France from an early age, Marie returned to her native land in 1561 following the death of her husband, King François II.

She then landed in a reformed Scotland under the influence of pastor John Knox and plagued by clan struggles.

Everyone around her has only one subject on their minds: that of her next marriage, an alliance that would have the potential to tip the scales... In this new episode of the Europe 1 Studio podcast "At the heart of History”, Clémentine Portier-Kaltenbach recounts the tragic fate of Mary Stuart, Queen of Scotland.
