Jiro Kaneko, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of the Liberal Democratic Party, has announced that he will not run for the Upper House election this summer and will retire from politics only this term.

Kaneko is 77 years old in the Nagasaki constituency of the House of Councilors.


After serving as a member of the Nagasaki Prefectural Assembly, she served as a member of the House of Representatives for five terms and as the governor of Nagasaki for three terms.

She has since been a member of the House of Councilors since 2010 and is currently in her second term.



She has served as the settlement chairman and budget chairman of the House of Councilors, and she has been the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in the Kishida Cabinet since October last year.
