On Wednesday, Minister of Education Anna Ekström held a press conference on the occasion of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

It was stated that the government calls on Swedish universities to suspend cooperation with state institutions in Russia and Belarus.

- We urge higher education institutions to take into account the security policy aspects.

The government recommends higher education institutions to have a very strict stance regarding payments, agreements and the like that involve Russian and Belarusian state institutions, said Anna Ekström (S) at the press conference.

A call that Uppsala University obeyed.

- The high-level research collaboration that is based on institutional agreements will probably be affected, says Coco Norén, Vice-Chancellor of Uppsala University.

The university is now working on mapping the university's collaborations with Russia and Belarus to get a more comprehensive picture of exactly what the collaboration looks like.

The government has emphasized that individual researchers should not automatically be equated with government institutions.
