A crackdown was carried out in a Guyanese cocaine trafficking network with the arrest of five people at the start of the week by the gendarmes of Ille-et-Vilaine.

The case started in December 2020 with the arrest at the Gravelle (Mayenne) toll of an individual who had in his possession the sum of 42,075 euros in cash.

During the search of his home in Guichen, south of Rennes, Redon's research brigade also got their hands on more than 280,000 euros in cash and two large-displacement vehicles.

"The investigation made it possible to link these sums to significant cocaine trafficking between Guyana and the Rennes metropolitan area", specifies Philippe Astruc, public prosecutor of Rennes in a press release.

The suspects tried from April 27 to 29

Entrusted to the research section of Rennes, it led to the arrest on Monday of five people, three men and two women, in Rennes and in two peripheral municipalities as well as in Tours.

At their home, the investigators seized 106,595 euros in cash as well as ten large-displacement vehicles.

Placed in police custody, the five suspects were referred to the prosecution on Tuesday.

They will be tried in court from April 27 to 29.

Pending trial, four of them have been remanded in custody while one of the women has been placed under judicial control.
