Ukraine, which is suffering from a shortage of weapons as the defense battle against Russia has passed for over a week, has asked the Korean government for aid for tens of thousands of rifles, but it has been confirmed that the government has refused after careful consideration.

According to reports from the Ukrainian Embassy in Korea, the Ministry of National Defense, and the defense industry, the Ukrainian Embassy in Korea requested the South Korean government for free support of tens of thousands of rifles earlier this week.

The government reviewed a plan to support 20,000 to 30,000 of the war stockpiles, but decided not to support it.

A high-ranking official of the Ministry of National Defense said in a phone call with SBS, "We delivered the position that we cannot support lethal weapons to the Ukrainian Embassy in Korea today (4th)."

It is said that the decision was reached after much deliberation between Russia's role in inter-Korean issues, such as the North Korean nuclear program, and the cause of helping Ukraine, which is suffering from an unfair invasion.

Instead, the official said, "We are actively reviewing ways to support non-lethal military supplies, such as helmets, bulletproof vests, blankets, and boots."
