The UAE called on all parties to the conflict in Ukraine to calm down and exercise restraint, reduce escalation, and work to end this crisis through dialogue and diplomatic means.

This came in a speech delivered by the Permanent Representative of the UAE, Ambassador Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Jarman, to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, before the forty-ninth session of the Human Rights Council during the discussion on the situation in Ukraine.

He added, "The UAE is following with great concern the current events in Ukraine, and affirms its firm position on the need to reduce escalation and work to find a peaceful solution to the crisis between the concerned parties, and the need to support efforts aimed at dialogue and enhance diplomatic action at all levels to support peace opportunities to ensure the return of stability and security. And it makes room for the necessary political solutions, in preparation for the return of life to its normal course.”

In this context, he stressed the need to adhere to the principles of international law, international humanitarian law, and the Charter of the United Nations, especially the settlement of international disputes by peaceful means, and respect for the sovereignty and independence of states, their territorial integrity and territorial integrity.

He also stressed that the continuation of the conflict would lead to an increase in the risk of massive violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, calling on all parties to exercise restraint in order to prevent casualties among civilians and displaced persons, stressing in this regard the need to protect civilians and not to be exposed to relief aid in conflict areas, and the need for them to reach their beneficiaries under these difficult circumstances, in line with the relevant humanitarian conventions.

In support of the relief efforts, His Excellency announced before the Council that the UAE had allocated $5 million in response to the United Nations urgent appeal and the Regional Refugee Response Plan in Ukraine.

At the conclusion of his speech, His Excellency expressed the UAE's welcome to diplomatic efforts to conduct negotiations between the parties to find a basis for peaceful solutions in accordance with international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
