Just a few days before the Royal Library closed in 2019 during the initial phase of the corona pandemic, national fiddler Olof Ericsson had time to photograph the pages of one of the oldest known notebooks for folk music.

- It was good in a way, because I then had time to devote work to completing the revision of the music collection, he says.

Different orchestras

Together with other musicians, he has played and interpreted the old notes to revive the cultural heritage.

A concert series is now starting in Örebro County, which will take place during 2022 and 2023 with ten occasions, where all the collection's songs will be played in different constellations.

The premiere will take place in St. Nicolai Church on March 5 with Örebro Baroque.

- This has been a way for me to go back and investigate how this music may have sounded by taking it with an ensemble that plays on time-honored instruments, says Olof Ericsson.

"Feel happy and proud"

The community collection contains a total of 138 songs.

The concerts will also be recorded with the intention of passing on the music.

- I hope we can feel happy and proud that this music has been written down in Närke and that there has been quite hidden again played and comes to live music, says Olof Ericsson.
