Following the military invasion of Ukraine from Russia, which applied for membership in the EU-European Union, Georgia on the Black Sea coast, which was invaded by Russia 14 years ago, and Moldova, which borders Ukraine, continued on the 3rd. Signed a document applying for membership in the EU.

Georgia and Moldova have long sought to join the EU with Ukraine.

After Ukraine applied for membership in the EU on the 28th of last month after Russia's military invasion, Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced on the 3rd that he had officially applied for membership in the EU.



Georgia was invaded by Russia in 2008, 14 years ago, and then aimed to join the EU in 2024, which is ahead of schedule.



Regarding the reason for rushing the application, the Embassy of Georgia in Japan commented to NHK's interview, "We have decided that it is necessary to advance membership under the new situation of security and international order."

Moldova's President Sandu also announced at a press conference on the 3rd that he had signed a document applying for accession to the EU.



Since his inauguration two years ago, President Sandu has taken a European-oriented policy and has strongly sought to join the EU in the future.



Russia's military invasion of Ukraine has made it clear that the three former Soviet nations are seeking help through strengthening relations with European countries.
