A week after the detection of a first outbreak of avian flu in Maine-et-Loire, a new outbreak was detected in the department.

This was confirmed in a duck force-feeding room in Val d'Erdre-Auxence.

The Maine-et-Loire prefecture indicates that this farm was “epidemiologically linked” with the first outbreak, discovered in Montrevault-sur-Evre on February 27.

850 ducks from this Val d'Erdre-Auxence farm were culled as a preventive measure.

A new protection and surveillance zone has been set up within a radius of 10 kilometers around this farm.

Part of it is now in Loire-Atlantique.

To limit the spread of this virus, “which can have significant economic consequences on the poultry sector”, the prefecture recommends that people who own a farmyard declare them to their town hall.

“Any bird mortality whose cause is not obvious must be reported to this address: ddpp@maine-et-loire.gouv.fr.
