Society The Infanta Cristina and Urdangarin separate: "The obsession" that put the Crown in check
Courts Iñaki Urdangarin will finish serving his sentence for the 'Nóos case' in Vitoria and will participate in the course for economic criminals
Nóos Case Judgment: Infanta Cristina acquitted;
Urdangarin, sentenced to 6 years in prison
King Iñaki Urdangarin's brother-in-law has been granted conditional release as of this Wednesday, so he will no longer have to report to the Zaballa prison in Alava as he did until now.
Sources from the Basque Department of Justice have confirmed to Efe that the Penitentiary Surveillance Court located in Bilbao has granted him conditional release, thus
suspending the sentence of
almost 6 years in prison
that he was serving
for the Nóos case.
The Prison Treatment Board was the one that proposed granting him parole
after two-thirds of the sentence had been served.
However, since last June Urdangarin no longer slept in the Alava prison, because he
was exempted from spending the night four nights a week
for his good behavior and the fulfillment of his obligations.
Urdangarin was sentenced to 5 years and 10 months for embezzlement, prevarication, fraud against the Administration, two tax offenses and influence peddling in the Nóos case.
He entered the Álava provincial prison on March 1, 2021
, where he slept from Monday to Thursday in an open regime until June.
Previously, she was in the Social Insertion Center (CIS) in
Alcalá de Henares
(Madrid), in the women's prison in
Brieva
(Ávila) and also went to Pozuelo de Alarcón (Madrid) to do
volunteer work in an NGO
that cares for People with disabilities.
Urdangarin requested his transfer to the Alava prison, located about 14 kilometers from Vitoria, due to his roots in the city, from which he is a native and where his mother and several of his brothers live.
In recent months, he only had to comply with a weekly control and appear at the prison or call by phone if he was outside Vitoria, in addition to continuing with the program for those convicted of economic crimes and
maintaining his professional activity in the Vitoria law firm
where he has been working as a consultant for a year, in March 2021.
It was precisely in that office,
Imaz&Asociados, that he met Ainhoa Armentia
.
The photographs that were published after he was seen with her on January 11 walking hand in hand on the beach in Bidart (France) caused the announcement of the "marriage interruption" between Urdangarin and the
infanta Cristina de Borbón.
