While one of Liverpool's other club's main backers is Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov, business partner of owner Farhad Moshiri, this FA Cup night was proof of unwavering support for Mykolenko, from the public and the two teams.

All the players carried a Ukrainian flag as they entered the pitch to the sound of "Imagine", the famous pacifist song by John Lennon.

And those of Boreham Wood also wore the flag of the country invaded by Russia on their training t-shirts, on the back of which was written "We stand with Ukraine" ("We support Ukraine").

Mykolenko came close to scoring his first goal for Everton, but it was Venezuelan Rondon, hired by previous manager Rafael Benitez, who stood out by striking twice despite only scoring only one goal this season.

In the quarter-finals, Everton will play at Crystal Palace.
