Bulgaria excelled in designing and transferring a unique archaeological treasure to the visitors of “Expo 2020 Dubai”, as it was able to copy the replica holdings of a rare group of gold-worked artifacts, which belong to one of the oldest wealth of gold art and industry in the world, which was found in The city of Panagyurishti, located in the south of that country, 91 kilometers east of the capital Sofia.

Bulgaria, the European country located in the Balkan region, displays nine pieces of 24-carat gold, exactly identical to the original pieces displayed in the Plodiv Museum, under the name "Panagyurishti Treasure", which belongs to the era of the Thracians, the Indo-European peoples who inhabited the Balkan regions in the first centuries BC .

The original treasure was found in 1949 by three brothers, Pavel, Petko and Mitchell Decovis, while digging up land as part of their business to expand a factory they owned in the area.

According to the ward;

The treasure belongs to the archaeological tombs of kings and nobles in the third century BC, where the possessions of notables and precious metals were buried with them.

designs

The cups contained in the treasure were carved with a very precise and beautiful artistic skill, as they all shared the basic lines in their design in the form of a cup, but they differed in what they embody from the life scenes of celebrations or rituals that include kings, queens and members of the parish.

One of the cups comes in the form of a woman's head, believed by historians to represent "Aphrodite", the Greek symbol of love and beauty.

Another cup was elongated in one side, carving a ram's head, while the other side depicted a scene of four women, in the middle of whom are Queen Hera, sitting on her throne, and holding in her right hand the phiale (a semi-flat bowl engraved with spider shapes unique in their arrangement, representing a Byzantine masterpiece used by the Greeks).

He also designed one of the cups in the shape of the head of a deer, a type of deer, whose horns were carved with beautiful artistic shapes that shaded the base and walls of the cup, forming a unique golden masterpiece.

As for the amphora, a word taken from the Greek, and meaning in Arabic “carrying on both sides,” it is an oval jar, which was made in ancient times from gold, silver, bronze, copper and porcelain. It is a flask with two handles and a long neck narrower than the body of the jar.

The ancient Greeks, Greeks, and Romans used amphorae as the main means of transporting and storing grapes, olive oil, olives, grain, fish, and other things, such as coins and ornaments.

Site No. 43

Another precious civilized and cultural heritage that Bulgaria brings to the Dubai Expo, accompanied by the “Panagyurishti Treasure”, is a copy of the 43rd site of the archaeological area known as the Varna Cemetery, which includes a treasure of ornaments and jewellery, believed to represent the oldest voluntary gold in Europe.

The site's gold jewelry is displayed in conformity with its original form, when it was found distributed over the skeleton of a buried person, in places that covered his various parts of his body before his body was decomposed.

According to information in the Bulgarian pavilion at the "Dubai Expo", the site or tomb No. 43 is among the holdings of Varna Necropolis, also known as the Varna Cemetery.

Varna is one of the world's most important historical sites for prehistoric science.

The burials of the cemetery are located in the western part of the industrial zone of Varna, located on the shore of the Black Sea. The cemetery is about 500 meters from Varna Lake, and four kilometers from the city center.

charming nature

In the middle of the archaeological treasures of Bulgaria at Expo Dubai is the courtyard of its pavilion, which includes screens that display pictures and information about the charming geographical nature of Bulgaria. It is interspersed with a dense network of about 540 rivers.

The screens convey film materials about Bulgaria's cultural landmarks and its iconic architectural heritage, as the first Bulgarian state dates back to the year 681, and was founded at that time by tribes under the leadership of Khan Asparukh in alliance with the local population of the Slavic and Thracian tribes.

A screen was also allocated in the pavilion to display models of traditional clothing for women and men in a number of Bulgarian cities and regions.
