A JetBlue pilot was "dismissed" on Wednesday.

He recorded an alcohol level of 0.17% at Buffalo Niagara International Airport, in the State of New York (United States).

Four times above the limit of 0.04% set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), reports the American channel CNN.

The 52-year-old pilot, from Orlando, Florida, was passing through airport security when a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agent noticed suspicious behavior, according to a press release from the airport.

After his positive blood alcohol test, he was taken into custody before being handed over to JetBlue security personnel.

Opening of an internal investigation

According to a police report relayed by CNN, the 50-year-old said he had drunk 5 or 6 glasses at dinner time the day before.

JetBlue Flight 2465 was scheduled to depart Buffalo bound for Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

It eventually departed more than four hours late, according to flight tracking site FlightAware.

Questioned by the American channel, the Air Line Pilots Association union wanted to reassure by promising that “the profession of airline pilot in North America is one of the most scrutinized careers”.

According to her, air transport remains the “safest mode of transport for passengers and freight shippers”.

In its press release, the company JetBlue assured that it had a strict internal policy of zero tolerance in terms of alcohol.

She also announced the opening of an internal investigation.
