“Our time was a major international event.

My position on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict remains unchanged: this is not our war, and American forces should not participate in it.

However, Americans are still feeling the consequences of this conflict, which again shows the danger of our current policy of dependence on foreign factors in an international system where there are regimes that do not recognize norms and claim to be great powers,” Gosar said.

According to him, "dependence" in this regard is noted, including in the energy sector.

Thus, the domestic demand for energy resources in the United States has not changed, however, the States - previously an "energy independent net exporter" - began to buy "600 thousand barrels of hydrocarbons from Russia per day."

“Oil and gas revenues give Russia geopolitical leverage over America and its allies and fuel the Russian war machine that is now attacking another country,” the member of the House of Representatives added.

According to Gosar, since the time of former US President Barack Obama, Russian imports to the US have grown by more than 22%.

In addition, he expressed the opinion that in the context of a “decline in economic production” in Russia due to the ongoing conflict and the possibility of imposing retaliatory sanctions, the country could cut off the United States and its allies from their “essentially needed” products.

Doctor of Political Sciences, Director of IMEMO RAS Fyodor Voitolovsky, in an interview with RT, noted that Gosar's statement regarding US military non-intervention in the situation in Ukraine does not differ from the position of American leader Joe Biden.

“Biden, a few months ago, outlined his administration’s approach to a possible conflict in Ukraine.

Then he said that there would be no American troops there under any circumstances.

It is quite obvious that such a position of the American leadership is also consensual among the American elite.

The United States, of course, will not participate in direct military operations in Ukraine, ”the expert specified.

In his opinion, all other NATO members, united by Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, adhere to the same point of view.

However, according to Voitolovsky, such a position does not apply to the conduct of an anti-Russian propaganda campaign, economic war, the implementation of

cyber attacks, on the supply of lethal and non-lethal weapons, as well as on the participation of military instructors from countries that are members of the North Atlantic Alliance in working with the Ukrainian army.

“Ukraine has been seen from the very beginning as a lever of pressure on Russia – a political lever of pressure.

If you look from 2014, the United States has not become one of the guarantors of the Minsk agreements, as, for example, Russia has become.

The United States distanced itself from them.

In this sense, the worse the situation (in Ukraine. -

) is, the better for the United States.

The deeper the current conflict, and the more indirect damage it inflicts on Russia, the better for the United States.

They proceed from this logic,” concluded Voitolovsky.

On February 21, Vladimir Putin announced the recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics.

Against this background, the US, the EU and a number of other countries introduced the first package of new anti-Russian restrictions.

On the morning of February 24, the president announced the start of a special operation in the territories of the DPR and LPR.

The corresponding decision was made in response to the appeal of the heads of the republics with a request for help in repelling aggression from Ukraine.

Subsequently, Western countries and their allies continued to impose sanctions against Moscow.

They affected a number of large banks and companies.

Then, on February 27, Western states introduced the third and, as experts say, the most severe package of restrictions.

On February 28, Vladimir Putin signed a decree on special economic measures in connection with the unfriendly actions of foreign partners.
