Sweden should not be part of research collaborations that support the Russian state.

This was announced by Minister of Education Anna Ekström (S) during a press conference on Wednesday.

- We urge higher education institutions to take into account the security policy aspects.

The government recommends higher education institutions to have a very strict stance regarding payments, agreements and the like that involve Russian and Belarusian state institutions, says Anna Ekström (S).

She emphasizes that individual researchers should not automatically be equated with government institutions.

Umeå University has several collaborations

The crisis management group at Umeå University will meet on Wednesday afternoon to review which collaborations with Russia are affected.

- We have five to seven slightly larger research collaborations that we need to look at further, says Per Ragnarsson, deputy university director and continues:

- We have no students or employees on site in Russia, Ukraine or Belarus.

Umeå University's Rector Hans Adolfsson tells TT, in his capacity as vice chairman of the Swedish Association of Universities and University Colleges (SUHF), that they follow developments closely to be able to assist affected students and staff in Russia and Belarus.

- We are also ready to, together with Scholars at Risk, support and help researchers on the run if necessary, he says to TT.
