Moments later, the 33-year-old Guyanese shot his victim in the back.

Aged 26 and from the West Indies, Stéphane Phobert had collapsed.

The main suspect had been arrested the day after the shooting at the home of his ex-companion in a town near Rennes.

A security sentence

During the three days of trial, the defendant apologized to the victim's family and loved ones.

He was returned to prison after the hearing.

Two-thirds of his sentence is accompanied by a security sentence.
