More than 7,000 Russian soldiers have been killed so far, Reuters news agency reported, citing the Ukrainian presidential adviser.

On Wednesday, Russia revealed its first military casualties during the war on Ukraine, announcing the killing of 498 of its soldiers and the wounding of 1,597 others.

"Unfortunately, we suffered losses among our comrades participating in special military operations. 498 Russian soldiers were killed in the line of duty" during the invasion that has been going on since February 24, Russian army spokesman Igor Konashenkov said during a press conference broadcast on Russian public television.

"The families of the missing are receiving all possible assistance. 1,597 of our comrades were injured," he added.

According to the spokesman, the losses on the part of the Ukrainian soldiers and nationalists amounted to 2,870 dead and about 3,700 wounded.
