The Government claims to be "coherent" with the postulates of the European Union to justify that Spain is practically the only European country that does not send offensive weapons bilaterally to Ukraine.

The coalition Executive relies on the "strength" that the community framework demonstrated with the vaccination strategy to bet on the centralization of the shipment of weapons to Ukrainian territory against the bilateral plan of other countries and denies discrepancies with United We Can on the matter: "The government has a single voice."

Thus, the Government of Pedro Sánchez focuses all its offensive contribution to the conflict in Ukraine on the 450 million euros that make up the European Peace Support Fund, of which Spain is the fourth country that allocates the most money.

"Of course there is a commitment to Ukraine," the minister spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez, assured on Tuesday, insisting that channeling the shipment of weapons through the European Union is also a "direct" measure.

As has been clarified this Tuesday from the Government, Spain is in line with the roadmap established at the community level in recent days: the expulsion of Russian banks from the Swift system, the prohibition of broadcasting of media related to the Russian Government, the closure of airspace to Russian airlines and, now, the centralization of arms shipments to Ukraine as a defensive response to the Russian attack.

Always in a "coordinated" manner with the European Union.

"political union"

This is precisely the "most powerful weapon" against "Putin's war", they say in the Government: "political and social union".

In this way, the minister spokesperson for the Executive, Isabel Rodríguez, has avoided specifying whether Spain's refusal to send weapons directly to Ukraine is a condition set by United We Can within the Government, but several sources from the Executive insist that the position of the Government is one and that there are no discrepancies within the Executive with United We Can.

This Monday, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, did not specify whether it was a veto of the

purples

, who criticized the shipment of weapons from the EU and rejected an increase in defense spending.

Of course, "the Government has a single voice in this matter", the spokesperson finished off.

And that voice is the one that is reached in the Council of Ministers, despite the fact that from the outside, United We Can, as a coalition of parties, criticizes the shipment of weapons by the EU, the war escalation that involves reinforcing the Defense budget or NATO is pointed out.

In United We Can, in fact, they are "satisfied" with the "prudence" shown so far by the President of the Government and consider that this is the path that our country must travel, focused on the diplomatic route and that does not weigh the escalation of militarization as a response, as other countries have done.

However, the position of the purples - restrained from within the Council of Ministers, critical from outside as a party - sectors of the Executive do not like.

This Tuesday, precisely, the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, has blamed the "ignorance" of United We Can for its offensive against NATO.

Some statements that have not received a response from the purple side of the Government nor have they been valued by the spokesperson for the Executive.
