Following the military invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Niigata Prefecture decided to send high school students studying music to Russia to review the exchange program around the summer and postpone or cancel it.

As a major partner on the Sea of Japan side, Niigata Prefecture has continued to interact with the Russian Far East in the fields of economic and cultural activities.

However, following the military invasion of Ukraine by Russia, the prefecture dispatches high school students studying music to Russia, which violates international law regarding exchange projects around the summer, and it is not possible to ensure the safety of students at present. We have decided to review, postpone or discontinue our business as a risk.

In addition, the prefecture has decided to cancel the online event that is considered to be a Russian business person regarding the strategy to sell foods from Niigata such as rice scheduled for this month in Russia.

A person in charge of the prefecture said, "In the current situation where Russia is invading the military, exchanges between Niigata and Russia cannot be done for the time being. We would like to make a decision on the resumption of exchanges after assessing the future situation."
