Emmanuel Macron must apply for the presidential election this week, while the deadline is set for Friday.

A declaration made more difficult because of the mobilization of the outgoing president on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The Head of State even decided to cancel his first campaign meeting on Saturday at Parc Chanot in Marseille.

TO ANALYSE

Will Emmanuel Macron be able to launch his campaign in the days to come?

He only has one week left to officially declare his presidential candidacy.

A statement first delayed by the health crisis, and now by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The Head of State was to hold his first campaign meeting on Saturday at Parc Chanot in Marseille.

The war came to upset his agenda: the public meeting was simply postponed.

"We are not going to hold a meeting in such a dramatic climate. It would not be understood" justifies a close friend of the Head of State.

Low profile among activists

In the campaign team of the future candidate the tone is also in sobriety: "We asked our activists to keep a low profile", explains a framework of the movement.

"You have to be flexible and pragmatic," says another strategist.

A solemn and serious announcement

In Macronie, the campaign is therefore postponed due to the context, while the announcement of Emmanuel Macron's candidacy will take place by Friday.

In terms of form, there is no longer any question of this important step being carried out as part of a trip to the region.

The entourage of the Head of State suggests that the announcement will be very solemn and serious.

"We take into account the global context which is changing from hour to hour", explained a close adviser to the president to Europe 1.
