Emmanuel Macron had his profile photo on social networks changed on Monday, where he now appears without a surgical mask after 17 months masked, on the day of an easing of health restrictions as contaminations drop.

Since September 2020, the head of state's profile photo showed him wearing a surgical mask.

A health message to the French, when the pandemic had taken precedence over all other subjects.

The government lifted new health restrictions on Monday, in particular by removing the obligation to wear a mask in closed places subject to the vaccination pass, such as cinemas, museums or restaurants.

A lifting of the pass envisaged

The Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, repeated Thursday "consider lifting the pass in mid-March" if the decline trajectory is confirmed.

He also said he was optimistic about a return to normal life "in the coming weeks", while the first round of the presidential election is scheduled for April 10.

Emmanuel Macron, who must formalize his candidacy for a second presidential term but whose agenda for the past few days has been almost entirely devoted to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, should convene a Covid Defense Council this week, said the Élysée.
