At the end of last week, Björn Bråvander found larvae of the Cinnobar beetle in two places in Ulleråker, including a stone's throw from an area that the municipality recently began to reveal.

Björn Bråvander is part of a hobby network that inventories various species in the Uppsala area and he believes that the beetle is found in more places.

- I am convinced of that, he says.

The cinnabar beetle is Uppland's landscape insect and Uppsala has the country's largest documented population.

It is protected and protected by the Species Protection Ordinance.

- If it is the case that it is there, then you can not do the procedures you have planned.

It can stop an expansion, says Urban Westerlind, unit manager at the County Administrative Board in Uppsala County.

Have stopped building before

Cinnoberbaggen was one of the reasons why the municipality stopped construction in Blodstensskogen in Eriksberg.

- It happens that the species protection pollution puts a stop to construction plans It is possible to apply for an exemption, but there are quite strict requirements for obtaining an exemption, says Urban Westerlind.

Uppsala municipality has previously, at the request of the county administrative board, made a plan for the felling.

- Then it has looked as if there is no cinnabar beetle in this planning area.

Under those conditions, we have said okay to the plans, says Urban Westerlind.

Erik Pelling believes that the municipality's focus is to find a solution where you can both protect the ram and build the new district square next to Dag Hammarskjöld's road.
