A Russian military convoy of more than 60 km in length is approaching Kyiv

Satellite images taken on Monday in Ukraine showed a huge Russian military convoy of more than 60 km in length advancing towards the capital, Kyiv, which Russia has made a major target of the military operation launched since Thursday against its pro-Western neighbor.

These images were published on Monday evening by "Maxar", the American company specializing in satellite imaging, and attached them to a postal message in which it said that the column "extends from the border of Antonov Airport (about 25 kilometers from the center of Kyiv) in the south to the outskirts of Prybirsk" in the north.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Antonov Airport has witnessed fierce battles, as the attacking forces seek to control this strategic facility, which greatly facilitates its control of Kyiv.

Maksar explained that the queue, which extends about 64 km in length, "consists of vehicles, part of which runs a little apart from each other, and the other part runs side by side in two or three tight rows."

In the photos, long lines of vehicles were seen driving behind each other on roads in the Ukrainian countryside, sometimes close to smoke that the company said was caused by fires in nearby buildings.

On the other hand, the American company published other photos that showed a new deployment of Russian forces - attack helicopters and military vehicles - in Belarus, less than thirty kilometers from the border with Ukraine.

Since the Russian forces began their attack on Ukraine on Thursday, the Ukrainian forces have succeeded until today in defending the center of the capital and repelling Russian attacks on it.

On the fifth day after the start of the invasion, the progress of the Russian forces is still "slow", knowing that these forces are massing around the capital.

A diplomatic and security source told AFP on Monday that Moscow was preparing to launch an imminent attack on the capital.

On Monday, a Pentagon official said that the Russian military convoy bound for Kyiv "advanced about five kilometers" and became "about 25 kilometers" from the city.
