The minister added that this decision was made for economic reasons, as the country's economy is too dependent on cooperation with Russia, especially in the energy sector.

Also, Moldova adheres to neutrality against the background of the events in Ukraine, the neutral status was supported by all the compositions of the Moldovan parliament.

Earlier, Moldovan President Maia Sandu condemned the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to recognize the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics.

The head of the Moldovan Foreign Ministry said that the country is in favor of finding diplomatic solutions to resolve the situation around Ukraine.
