We have followed William and his case since 2018, when he and several other young people with disabilities in Ljusdal, were suddenly rejected by the Swedish Social Insurance Agency.

He has appealed to all possible instances but received no everywhere.

In 2021, he and his mentor, Stefan Olsson, sent in a new application to the Swedish Social Insurance Agency and then - as unexpectedly as when he was first rejected in 2018 - he got yes.

- Finally, says William Kvarnåker who is 29 years old today.

Ended up with the social

In 2019, William was forced to turn to the social services to cope.

Now, when he has gone from maintenance support of SEK 8,000 to activity compensation of around SEK 12,000 a month, he can afford to treat himself to good food again, he says.

- I have even been able to start saving for a computer again - something that makes everyday life a little happier.

Clear trend

William Kvarnåker was not alone in being rejected in 2018 and he is not alone in having his application approved now.

Stefan Olsson, who worked at Williams 'daily operations in 2018 and who now helps several others in Williams' situation with their cases at the Swedish Social Insurance Agency non-profit, has seen how the authority has changed its decisions over the years.
