At eleven different places in Jönköping County, church premises were open during the weekend where people could come to leave supplies of various kinds, which will be sent by truck to Ukraine as soon as possible.

Until then, the mountain of sacks that are now collected in an industrial premises in Hillerstorp is constantly growing.

Behind the initiative for the fundraiser is the Chernobyl Children's Oasis, which for decades has worked with vulnerable children, mainly in Belarus, but also in Ukraine.

- The Pentecostal Union in Ukraine has contacted them because they are in need of clothes, shoes, sheets, hygiene items and more, for their refugee facilities.

There are large flows of refugees even inland, says Anna Claesson, the Chernobyl children's oasis.

"The war is so close"

On Friday, eleven churches in various places around Jönköping County were contacted and soon the collection started.

And the response was huge.

- There have been around 10,000 people who have left just over 1,800 sacks of material.

It's unbelievable, I'm very moved, says Anna Claesson.

What do you think makes people so generous in this situation?

- This war is so close and, strangely enough, it may affect in a different way.

But that's the way it is.

We may feel that we can make some kind of difference for these people.

In the clip above, you can see the amount of material collected and hear Anna Claesson tell us what she thinks about the possibility that the relief shipment will reach the needy in Ukraine.
