"Glory to Ukraine" defiance of Putin and Lukashenko.. Belarusians interact from windows and balconies (video)

Activists published a video clip of shouts of support for Ukraine issued from apartment windows in Belarus, reflecting the extent to which the war is opposed in a country ruled by a pro-Russian president.

According to the multiple accounts that published the clip, residents chanted through the windows of their apartments during the night: "Glory to Ukraine" and "Long live Belarus", to the defiance of the country's President Alexander Lukashenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This support for Ukraine comes despite the fact that Belarus constitutes a rear base for Russian forces to launch their attacks on Ukraine.

Belarus witnessed a historic protest movement, in 2020, that extended for months against the re-election of the pro-Moscow president, Alexander Lukashenko, in which tens of thousands of demonstrators participated, and sometimes hundreds of thousands, but it collided with a bloody crackdown.

The Russian offensive, launched on February 24, is facing stiff resistance from the Ukrainian army, while the West has imposed unprecedented sanctions on the Russian economy.

Today, Monday, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced that his country will impose sanctions on the President of Belarus over the war.

Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians fled to neighboring countries due to the Russian invasion, of whom about 300,000 went to Belarus.

Today's protest continued even at night.
