Good evening,

on a day when war broke out in Europe and not far from Germany, it probably occupied many more than their actual day's work.

The Frankfurt local politicians left a part of what they were supposed to do on Thursday entirely: Shortly before the start of the planned city council meeting on Thursday afternoon, the coalition of Greens, SPD, FDP and Volt canceled the meeting, at least in the detailed form planned.

The budget that was supposed to be at stake was formally introduced, the debate on the paper with a record deficit fell through.

The group leader of the Greens, Dimitrios Bakakis, justified the procedure by not being able to debate local political issues in view of the same.

: The Hessian state government wants to help the Ukrainians quickly and concretely.

This was agreed in a conversation at which Prime Minister Volker Bouffier (CDU), members of the cabinet and the chairmen of the parliamentary groups met with the Consul General of Ukraine, Vadym Kostiuk, in the State Chancellery in Wiesbaden on Thursday.

Bouffier then reported that many Ukrainians were stranded at Frankfurt Airport because of the closed airspace over their country.

You will be offered accommodation and bureaucratic help.

The people have no telephone connection to their home country and no money.

Remedial action will also be taken in this regard.

In coordination with the consulate general in Frankfurt, they also want to give “immediate help” to the approximately 10,000 Ukrainians living in Hesse,

said Bouffier.

For Ukraine, the Prime Minister announced medical aid and the delivery of food.

Bouffier explained that he does not expect a large influx of refugees.

But the Minister of the Interior made sure that Hesse was prepared.

With the words "Today we are all Ukrainians", state parliament president Boris Rhein (CDU) welcomed Kostiuk as a "dear friend" before the appointment in the state chancellery in the plenary hall of the state parliament.

: Security in Europe can only be created with and not against Russia: Nicole Deitelhoff said this at an event organized by the Heinrich Böll Foundation on the eve of the Russian invasion of eastern Ukraine.

In an interview with the FAZ's Rhein-Main-Zeitung on Thursday, she specified that Russia is a potential nuclear power in Europe, without which no lasting peace can be established.

But: "That doesn't mean that we should crawl to Moscow and ask the ruler to be heard." In addition to sanctions, more NATO troops are needed in Eastern Europe.

Nicole Deitelhoff heads the Hessian Foundation for Peace and Conflict Research, a kind of think tank for peace research and international relations, created in 1970 at the request of the Hessian state government.
