When asked if the cancellation was related to the Queen's health, Buckingham Palace reiterated that the decision was made on the advice of the Foreign Office.

The Diplomatic Reception is an annual event usually attended by ambassadors and high commissioners from the various diplomatic missions in London.

A day after Russia launched its military campaign against Ukraine, it was revealed that the reception would not take place.

The Queen has had to cancel three video meetings since she tested positive for coronavirus on February 20.

A statement from Buckingham Palace on February 24 said the Queen would continue to carry out her "light duties".

Queen Elizabeth II's next scheduled public events are the annual Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey on March 14 and a memorial service for the Duke of Edinburgh on March 29.
