UN estimates indicated that more than 360,000 people have fled Ukraine to neighboring countries due to the crisis resulting from the Russian military operation, while the Pope stressed the urgent need to open humanitarian corridors to help Ukrainian refugees.

The Commission added, according to what was published on its official page on Twitter, that the numbers are rising continuously and will announce a new update of the numbers later today, Sunday.

For her part, spokeswoman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Shabia Manto told Anadolu Agency that they do not have statistics on the number of displaced people inside Ukraine.

She pointed out that they had only recent data regarding the number of refugees who crossed into neighboring countries, and stated that the number of people who left Ukraine for neighboring countries reached 368,000.

For its part, the Polish embassy in Paris reported that 187,000 people had crossed the border between Ukraine and Poland since the start of the Russian invasion, while the Hungarian police announced that nearly 63,000 people had crossed the border from Ukraine to Hungary since last Thursday.

conditions and evacuation

This comes while the Chinese ambassador to Ukraine, Fan Xianrong, said earlier on Sunday that the current conditions are not very safe for the evacuation of his country's nationals, days after the embassy announced that it would prepare plans to help people leave after the start of the Russian invasion.

The Chinese ambassador sought, through a long video, which was broadcast on the embassy's official account on the WeChat platform, to dispel rumors about his departure from Kiev and to reassure his country's citizens stranded in Ukraine.

In recent weeks, several countries have evacuated their diplomats, including the United Kingdom, Japan and the United States, and urged their nationals to leave Ukraine as fears of war in the country mounted.

And China, which refrained from condemning the performance of Russia, its most prominent ally, throughout the crisis, waited until Thursday to announce its readiness to operate flights to evacuate its citizens.

Ukraine closed its airspace to civil aviation on the same day, citing "high security risks".

Reception and ratings

In a related context, the Turkish state of Edirne received - yesterday, Saturday - the first batch of Ukrainian families who were forced by the Russian attack to leave their country.

The Ukrainian families, who arrived in Edirne via Bulgaria, expressed their happiness at reaching a safe area on the one hand, and their sadness at leaving their homeland and leaving their relatives on the other.

On Saturday, the United Nations predicted that about 4 million Ukrainians will be displaced due to the conflict with Russia.

In the past few days, thousands of Ukrainian citizens began moving to Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Moldova.

Since last Thursday, Russia has launched a military operation in various regions of Ukraine, killing and wounding dozens, in a move that sparked a wave of international condemnations and sanctions.
