In a statement to the Security Council, the UAE calls for a cessation of hostilities in Ukraine

The UAE stressed, during a meeting of the United Nations Security Council in New York, that the dangerous developments in Ukraine undermine regional and international peace and security, calling for an immediate de-escalation and an end to hostilities.

In its statement today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expressed its particular concern about the repercussions for the civilians present in Ukraine, the region and the international community as a whole.

The ministry also stressed the need for humanitarian aid to reach those in need, calling on all parties to respect international humanitarian law, to give priority to protecting civilians, and to allow unimpeded humanitarian access.

Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations, stressed during the Security Council meeting the UAE’s readiness to work with members of the Security Council to reduce escalation and stop hostilities, and said: “The result of today’s vote is just a foregone conclusion, but channels must remain Dialogue is more open than ever, and we must all strive to achieve this,” adding: “Our belonging to the Middle East makes us fully aware of the critical importance of a stable regional security environment, and the need for de-escalation, diplomacy and engagement in dialogue, and based on our experience, we also understand the need for consultations Inclusive".

Ambassador Nusseibeh added that the UAE is committed to respecting the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence for all UN member states, expressing its support for various diplomatic initiatives and channels aimed at resolving the crisis, stressing: "This is clearly the opinion on which the Council is united."
